![]() ![]() Embossing is the process of applying a sketch to a surface, either raising or lowering selected portions of that surface. A typical use is to put letters on an object. However, earlier versions of Autodesk Fusion 360 did not have a decent method of doing this. The Open dialog box will appear showing your cloud data. In order to truly emboss letters it was a difficult affair involving projecting individual 2D letters on a surface and manually extruding. Navigate to a file listed in your cloud data and click Open to open the file. Verify all designs have been saved, upload any designs not already uploaded. To open a file saved locally on your computer, click Open from my computer. ![]() Open the design that everything will inserted into (the Assembly file). Right click on the thumbnail of the file that will be inserted. Hopefully there wasn’t too much distortion. It was extremely tedious to do this type of work in Fusion 360, and the results were often crappy. Now that’s changed with the introduction of an official Emboss feature. tinkercad import stl Start Fusion 360 Click on Create then Insert Mesh. This function will attempt to properly project (i.e., matching the curve) a sketch onto a curved surface. of the model and insert it directly in Tinkercad, 123D Design and Meshmixer. The process is now ludicrously simple compared to previous methods: select the sketch, select the curved surface and hit “OK”. 123D Make: try Slicer for Fusion 360 Built upon the 123 Make technology, Slicer for Fusion 360 is a free tool to slice and convert 3D models (US site) into 2D patterns that can be cut flat. To help build a model, Slicer for Fusion 360 also creates 3D instructions you can interact with. Now that we have a CAD drawing file of our Eagle BRD design, we can import that drawing into Fusion 360. Start a new document in Fusion 360, then, in the ribbon at the top of the screen, choose Insert > Insert DXF. You have to position the sketch on top of the surface, but Fusion 360 provides the usual grabber tools for moving and rotating the sketch. 123D Catch, by Autodesk, allows you to use 2D photographs, taken at various angles, to create a 3D model that you can edit, export, and 3D print. You also specify the height of the emboss, just as you would for a normal extrude. There are 3 different versions of 123D Catch, all of them are free.
